Bengali at store. Sat, Nov 29, 2008

11/29/2008. 1093. I was still on a shopping trip, on my way to Meijer to see if they had any Turkey Spam, when I noticed a new ethnic grocery store, so I stopped there and did some shopping for some food items I needed. The cashier spoke with a Bengali accent, and he was indeed from Bangladesh. I offered, and he accepted, Bengali and English copies of the Book of Mormon. I had them in the car, so I retrieved them and presented them right there.

Urdu at store. Sat, Nov 29, 2008

11/29/2008. 1092. After lunch, I stopped at a nearby store to shop for cargo pants. They didn't have any, but I bought something else. The cashier spoke with a Punjabi accent. He spoke Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and English. His main language was Urdu though. He accepted my offer of Urdu and English copies of the Book of Mormon, so after paying, I retrieved them from the car and went back and got in line again. When he saw me standing in line, he stopped waiting on the person ahead of me and motioned for me to give him the books, which he seemed very enthusiastic to receive.

Chinese declined at restaurant. Tue, Nov 18, 2008

11/18/2008. 1091. After volunteering a bit at the storehouse, I stopped for supper at a Chinese restaurant that I hadn't eaten at before. It was better than average, both in terms of ambience and food, so I'll probably stop by there again.

My waiter noticed the Chinese Book of Mormon and Chinese Liahona on my table as he passed by, and I offered them to him on his next trip to my table. He politely declined. Other than restaurant vocabulary, his English seemed a bit limited. He may have thought I was trying to sell them. He was a bit nervous or unsure of how to respond, so I didn't follow up by offering a free DVD. Anyway, I made sure to leave an extra generous tip.

There were a couple other employees, so maybe I can offer something to them on future trips.

11/16/2008. 1090. On the way home from church I stopped at an "assisted living center" (not quite a nursing home) and offered the receptionist "Mr. Krueger's Christmas" and "Joy to the World" DVD's for their facility. The receptionist said she'd give them to the director.

English DVD's at gas station. Wed, Nov 12, 2008.

11/12/2008. 1087. After checking out of the motel, I felt inspired to stop at this nearby gas station. I pulled in and bought something, either a soda or a newspaper. The cashier was a very sweet cheery lady with a very positive and bright attitude, but did not appear foreign born. I chickened out of offering her anything. There was no one in line behind me so, I could have.

I drove down the street a little, and possible scenarios of how to strike up a conversation played in my head. There was a Christ-like spiritual light about her, so it was obvious to me that she believed in Jesus Christ. Before I got back to the Interstate highway, the Spirit "cranked up the volume" and made it obvious that I was supposed to offer her something.

I drove back, and took in two DVDs, and got in line.

I offered her "Mr. Kreuger's Christmas" and "Joy to the World". She politely and graciously accepted them. I probably should have also offered a Book of Mormon using one of the conversation threads that had occurred to me, but I didn't.

Gujerati, English at motel. Wed, Nov 12, 2008.

11/12/2008. 1086. I had stayed overnight in a motel at my destination city. The night clerk last night was from the state of Gujerat in India. The clerk on duty this morning was also from Gujerat. After checking out, I went back to my car and got a Gujerati Bible, and went back in and offered it to him. He hadn't seen one before. He could still read Gujerati and was very upbeat and postive about receiving it. He wanted another one, but I only had the one, so I gave him the website where I bought mine. I mentioned the Book of Mormon too, and he seemed interested, so I went out to the car and retrieved an English Book of Mormon which he also accepted.

Chinese at restaurant. Tue, Nov 11, 2008.

11/11/2008. 1083. I was travelling out of town, for a 2 day trip, and figured on having a late lunch or early supper some place along the highway. I found a Chinese buffet that I had scouted out on a previous trip in this direction, but hadn't patronized yet. I wasn't even thinking about it when I passed the first exit at this highway interchange, but felt that I may have been inspired to take this exit. The feeling to get off the interstate here was stronger as I approached the 2nd exit at this interchange, so I took the exit leading to the cross-highway in the opposite direction. It was then that I remembered the Chinese buffet, so I had to turn around and go the other way.

At the buffet restaurant, on one of her trips to my table, I offered the waitress a Chinese simplified script Book of Mormon and a "Finding Happiness" DVD. She accepted both. After paying up front, I offered her a Chinese Liahona magazine, which she also accepted.
