(One drop at a time.) My journal entries about offering copies of the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other LDS church books, mainly to immigrants in their native language, mainly in Indianapolis, Indiana. With 106 translations, the Book of Mormon (along with the Bible) is a good "Rosetta Stone" for learning English or other languages, in addition to being a missionary tool.
My goals in keeping this blog/journal are: to encourage others to offer people copies of the Book
of Mormon and the Bible, to illustrate the incredible number of recent immigrants who are eager
for bilingual material, to illustrate the ease of encountering them and offering them material,
and to make known the wonderful deeds of the Lord (Ps 105:1, Isa 12:4) in arranging many of these
encounters. I realize that the concept of offering foreign language books to strangers is just
plain weird to many people, so here are some hints if you are intrigued by this and wish to try it.
Respectful comments and constructive criticism are invited.
The goal of the book placement effort is to provide, in a friendly non-threatening way, gospel
material to someone who is willing to receive it in their native language and English.
To the recipients of these books who read this: I thank you again for allowing me
to be of service to you. I encourage you to read the material, and pray to God that He
confirm the truth of it to you. The Bible and the Book of Mormon are both the Word of God.
Living according to their teachings brings happiness.

The label is "humor"? This is not at all funny to those of us who live in Utah, much less Provo. You complain that Utah Mormons look down their noses at members who live elsewhere, but you have no trouble sneering at Utahns, all Utahns, for no identified reason. I am a fan of Bookslinger, but not of this unjustified put-down of a million of your brothers and sisters.
Haha, I happened to see that too. I wonder if I will feel that way about Idaho? I hope not.
Anon, granted. The MTC is its own little bubble, and not representative of Provo overall.
I lived in Provo for two semesters, going to college. I am not from Utah, but it is my favorite place; and Provo specifically is awesome in my opinion. Of course, BYU is an extremely diverse international campus. But, Provo, boring nothingness? Not in my opinion...
I can see why it was labeled in the "humor" section. That is what King had made it. It wasn't a malicious stab at the church or its members. I would love to visit Utah and see the sites and take in the beautiful scenery. I could even see myself living there because of its beauty and its people. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't want to have anything to do with it. "I see Mormons everywhere I go now. Why would I want to go where everyone is a Mormon?" Of course she says this jokingly but she sees all those mountains and hills as just a mowing headache. She likes her land mostly flat. I can see her point but that doesn't mean I share her narrower views. I can relate. Thanks for bringing that article to my attention, Bookslinger.
I've even heard people that live in Provo or other similar parts of Utah, call it the Ice Planet Hoth in terms of bareness and boring factor.
