Polish declined. Tue, Jan 27, 2009.

01/27/2009. 1109. I was grocery shopping late at night (for myself this time) and the cashier spoke with an accent. He was from Poland. I offered him a free Polish Book of Mormon, but he politely declined.

I gave a Ksiega Mormona to our neighbors a few years back and they returned it saying they could not accept it.

It's your offer that's important. Your offer itself is a testimony. Some day in the future, in this life or the next, they will know that your offer came from the Lord trying to show His love for them.

Just curious, did you verbally offer it to them first, and they verbally accepted your offer, then you handed them the book, and then they returned it; or did you just hand it to them without asking them first, and then they handed it back?

I generally go for a verbal offer first, then wait for their indication of acceptance, and then (retrieve it from the car and) physically hand over the book.

That verbal introductory protocol seems to help. It's as if giving people the opportunity to politely say "no" actually increases the probability of them saying "yes."
